The Best of Carlton Attractions ~ Wine Tasting, Restaurants, & the Charming Downtown
Wine Tasting ~ Downtown Carlton has too many wine tasting rooms to visit in a single day, and that is no exaggeration! Though some come and go, many have been permanent fixtures on the main street and surrounding blocks since the beginning and you can always be sure that you will have at least 20 to choose from at any given time. Choosing to spend a day casually walking the town of Carlton, occasionally stepping inside for a flight of wine, I believe, makes for a practically perfect day. Park your car and begin at Tyrus Evan, located on Pine Street in the old train station depot. You’ll be able to experience both labels by Ken Wright Cellers; the Tyrus Evan brand is named for his two son’s middle names. From there you can walk to so many more tasting rooms including, but not limited to:
- Folin Cellars
- Solena Cellars
- Scott Paul Wines
- WildeAire Cellars
- Zena’a Wines
- Alexana Winery
- Terra Vina
- The Tasting Room
- Ken Wright Cellers
Restaurants ~ You’ll definitely need to replenish your energy during your day of wine tasting, so do your taste buds a favor and eat lunch at The Horse Radish Wine & Cheese Bar. It won’t be too far to walk from whichever tasting room you happen to be in when you get hungry. You’ll be able to choose from a long list of cheeses, many local, along with some delicious light lunch options. They also carry many fine local wines and beers.
Charming Downtown Park ~ The community park offers a wonderful place to take the kids or just relax for a while on a nice sunny day. Located right in the downtown city blocks, the park isn’t large, but it does contribute to the aesthetic of Carlton; who doesn’t love a park right in the middle of a downtown? During the summer you must also bring the kids to enjoy the community outdoor pool, I’m sure one of the few that Oregon would dare offer.
Carlton is also home to Our Lady of Guadalupe Trappist Abbey. This monastic home is where the monks worship, pray, work, serve and live. Visit their website for more details and schedules if you would like to attend a service or just learn more about this order of Cistercian Monks.

If you are here to experience the country life, perhaps Abby Road Farm Bed and Breakfast will be the place for you. Whichever you choose, you can be guaranteed a more personal, quaint and hospitable visit than you’ll ever experience at a corporate hotel.
